Meet your Senior Advocate, Peggy Gillen

The Wauconda Township Senior Advocate’s role is to sustain and improve the quality of life for individuals age 60 and older and their caregivers by providing social services in a variety of forms. Referrals to area home care, assisted living/memory care and health companies can be given.

Peggy can assist Wauconda Township residents in connecting with SHIP counseling (Senior Health Insurance Program) for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security related issues.

She offers assistance, also in applying for Benefits Access program. After qualifying for this program, a person will be eligible for two discounts for two years: A Ride-Free pass with the RTA and a reduction on the price of their license plate sticker.

Assistance with applications for hearing aids and eyeglasses for low-income people. Managing the medical equipment lending closet and planning monthly events.

Senior Resources

We would like to a moment and express our extreme gratitude to our retiring Senior Advocate, Lisa Knight. As she retires with over 13 years of dedicated service to the Township, we want to thank her for everything that she has done for our community. Her commitment as Senior Advocate has made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many residents.

Through Lisa's compassion, patience, and unwavering support, she helped ensure that our seniors felt heard, valued, and connected. Whether Lisa was assisting individuals with resources, advocating for their needs, or simply offering a listening ear, her work reflected genuine care and professionalism.

Lisa's impact reaches far beyond the programs she helped lead—she built trust, strengthened our community, and improved the quality of life for countless people. The relationships formed and the legacy of service she leaves behind will continue to inspire us.

Thank you for your 13 years of dedication, leadership, and kindness. We wish Lisa a retirement filled with happiness, relaxation, and all the things that she enjoys most. Lisa will be greatly missed, but her contributions to the Township will not be forgotten.

With appreciation and best wishes for the future.
